Common Types of Data Visualization

Data visualizing is becoming more important with the increased amount of accessibility of data. Data visualization allows people to represent their huge amounts of data logically and do not falsify the data. It also allows users to distinguish the relationships in the data. Usually, there are two basic types of data visualization methods, including exploration, finds the story of data and explanation, tells a story to readers. Both types are considered to reach the audience expectations.
Various Methods To Visualize Data
Data visualization will change the way the users see the data, for what it is used and how it is processed. It also helps companies create some really meaningful visuals in order to represent their data. There are several other ways the data can be made visual, within the two basic types of data visualization methods. Some of the common data visualization types falls under 2D area, multidimensional, hierarchical, temporal, and network categories. In 2D area category, there are Dot Distribution Map types, Choropleth, and Cartogram. 2D area data visualization type is usually relates to the relative position of thing on the surface of earth. Temporal is another method of visualizing data types which have Time Series, Polar Area Diagram, and Connected Scatter Plot. Temporal data visualization method is almost similar to one-dimensional linear visualizations; however, they differ with a specific feature by having a start and finish time and also items that might overlap each other.
Another data visualization method is Multidimensional, where the data elements have two or more dimensions. This category have the most common data visualization types of all. They include: Pie Charts, Histogram, and Scatter Plot. Hierarchical is one of the data visualization methods, in which data sets are usually prioritized into groups, within which there are large groups that includes smaller group sets. This category includes Dendrogram, Ring Chart, and Tree Diagram data visualization types. The last category of data visualization is Network, which shows how the data sets are related to each other within their network. This category includes three other data visualization types which are, Matrix, Node-Link Diagram, and Alluvial Diagram.
Final Words
There are plethora of data visualization methods, but these 15 types are common among others. It depends on you to choose the right visual, based on what you want to show, be it compare, distribution, relationship, or composition, as well as how much and what information does the audience needs to know. No matter which visuals you choose, make sure it conveys your information as you intended it to. Usually, it involves both the creation and study of the visual representation of data. Data visualization is helpful to all sizes of companies in many ways and assists them to make their next step carefully with their current data that is organized well with data visualization tools.
